poles were designed with ergometrically correct grips for women’s smaller hands, lighter weights, and shorter
lengths than stanky old dude poles. The Edelwiess is a pole and avalanche probe, built with an aluminum top
shaft and carbon lower. Plus, its forward-angled ergometric grip features a handy release strap in case you

The long-awaited BD tele boot lives up to the company’s rethinking of how “tele” skiers should attack the
backcountry. This is a stiff aggressive boot, built on a Triax-Pro frame construction that melds light weight
and stiffness in an overlap four-buckle design. A 120 fl ex is combined with greater walk mode range of
motion. Add an out-of-the-box strobel liner and a Boa lacing system and you have one serious freeheel

formance, which are virtually the same as the Extreme of the late ’80s, the new Extreme ($625) bears
little resemblance to its forefather. The old Extreme came in lengths over 200 cm; the new one starts at
159 cm and goes up to 179 cm. The old Extreme had a fl at tail. The new one is curved. The new Extreme
is also wide and curvy (118-85/-109), making an all-mountain ski that can hammer the steeps with the
