01. LIFE-LINK WOMEN’S POLES; garmontusa.com // 888 343-5200; These brand new high- performance
poles were designed with ergometrically correct grips for women’s smaller hands, lighter weights, and shorter
lengths than stanky old dude poles. The Edelwiess is a pole and avalanche probe, built with an aluminum top
shaft and carbon lower. Plus, its forward-angled ergometric grip features a handy release strap in case you
catch a tree. — DOUG SCHNITZSPAHN
02. ROXY TORAH BRIGHT; roxy.com // (714) 889-2200; Roxy is synonymous with fun and feminine
style. The Torah Bright Jacket ($300) and Pant ($170) are no exception. Just like a movie based on a cartoon
character, the jacket is styled after the popular Torah Bright goggles and this season there’s an entire outfi t
in the collection. The Jacket comes in either a new spin on herringbone or metallic printed light twill — with
the ROXY letters of course. — KRISTA CRABTREE
03. BLACK DIAMOND TELEMARK FREERIDE BOOT; Blackdiamondequipment.com // (801) 278-5552;
The long-awaited BD tele boot lives up to the company’s rethinking of how “tele” skiers should attack the
backcountry. This is a stiff aggressive boot, built on a Triax-Pro frame construction that melds light weight
and stiffness in an overlap four-buckle design. A 120 fl ex is combined with greater walk mode range of
motion. Add an out-of-the-box strobel liner and a Boa lacing system and you have one serious freeheel
freerider. — DS
04. K2 NEW EXTREME; k2skis.com // 800 972-4063; Except for its graphics and top-of-the line per-
formance, which are virtually the same as the Extreme of the late ’80s, the new Extreme ($625) bears
little resemblance to its forefather. The old Extreme came in lengths over 200 cm; the new one starts at
159 cm and goes up to 179 cm. The old Extreme had a fl at tail. The new one is curved. The new Extreme
is also wide and curvy (118-85/-109), making an all-mountain ski that can hammer the steeps with the
confi dence of the old-timers and then stomp a switch landing. —SUSAN SCHNIER
05. ROME SDS OUTERWEAR; romesnowboards.com // (802) 244-1758; Core board and boot-maker
Rome is moving into outerwear with two new collections with differing personalities. The cut of the
100 Collection is snowboarding through and through while the Manifest Collection is urban cool. Both
collections use a range of fabrics, from traditional nylon to faux croc and micro corduroy, with Rome’s
waterproof-breathable DryTac technology for performance. — DS
06. WHITE SIERRA BAM BAM; whitesierra.com // 800 980-8688; The Northstar Tee ($40) —
a new men’s long sleeve base layer featuring White Sierra’s Bam Bam Weave — is made from a bamboo/
poly blend. Bamboo is a sustainable fi ber and grown without pesticides, so you can pat yourself on the
back for wearing something that strives to be eco-friendly. As a bonus, the fabric offers some sun protection,
wicking properties and helps block odor-causing bacteria. — KC
