SALOMON
Custom-moldable liners have become a staple in performance
boots so leave it to Salomon to take the next step:
a custom shell with heat-moldable material bonded to the
medial and lateral sides. The Custom Shell Technology is
available only in the Falcon line. In an effort to boost market
share, the company has aggressively moved its Mission/
Divine line (introduced in 07-08) down in price points. Both
the men’s Mission and women’s Divine will all offer new
heat-moldable liners. An upscaled Mission/Divine RS line
combines a new V-lasted shell that offers performance
characteristics akin to Impact and Falcon with Biovent,
a breathable liner that wicks moisture from the foot and
ventilates. It is said to keep the foot dryer and therefore
warmer. The Ghost is a new, lightweight, big-mountain
freeskiing boot that uses a performance last with cushioning
and waterproof features.

TECNICA
Dragon is a new series that Tecnica hopes will breathe fi re at the SIA show. The design provides the support and
fl ex characteristics of Tecnica’s Race Pro but in a more upright, less aggressive stance. It offers deeper cushioning
without sacrifi cing performance. The 3D design offers easy entry and exit as well as an asymmetric design to
direct more power to the inside of the boot. This combines to give skiers increased lateral stiffness and an overall
balanced energy transmission for strong edge hold. Ultra-slim carbon steel buckles are said to be 10 times lighter
and stronger than heretofore standard magnesium. They have been engineered closer to the base plate to reduce
breakage and improve aerodynamics and closure. The Ultrafl ex Booster Strap provides superior rebound energy
and shock absorption. Also new for 2008-09 is Mega, a comfort-oriented series. Mega has a relaxed forward lean
and shell wall thickness that is modifi ed for each shell size to provide for consistent fl ex throughout the entire
range. Mega also features a progressive cushioning liner and a ski/walk device. The Vento liner has been tweaked
to create better foot envelopment. — STEVE COHEN/MASTERFIT ENTERPRISES (BOOTH N79)
